Driver Joseph A. Jackson, 30, of 7565 State Route 245, DeGraff, and his passenger, Zachary A. Carroll, 31, of 10817 W. State Route 29, DeGraff, each were placed under arrest following an impaired driving crash about 9:50 p.m. Tuesday.
Jackson was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, and both defendants were charged with resisting arrest and possession of marijuana. Carroll also was charged with persistent disorderly conduct and failure to disclose personal information.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a single-vehicle non-injury accident in the area of township roads 30 and 187.
Jackson reportedly was operating a southbound 2009 Nissan Altima on T.R. 187 when he went off the right side of the road, into a field and struck a ditch.
Deputies arriving on the scene observed that both Jackson and Carroll were intoxicated and also noticed an odor of burnt marijuana.
They said Carroll was belligerent while at the scene and he was placed under arrest. While deputies were attempting to handcuff Carroll, Jackson reportedly attempted to interfere by getting close to deputies and yelling at them.
Both defendants were transported to the Logan County Jail, where they each continued to be belligerent and would not follow the commands of the corrections staff. Jackson and Carroll then were placed in restraint chairs at the jail.
Carrol refused to identify himself at the crash site and at the jail, and deputies were able to attain his identity through the vehicle registration by contacting the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies also seized suspected marijuana from the vehicle.
