1 arrested for weapons charge, 13 issued summonses
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report an incident early Sunday morning at the Kirkmont Center, 6946 County Road 10, Zanesfield, led to one individual being issued a weapons charge and 13 other Columbus area residents being issued summonses for underage drinking at a party on the premises.
Jayson Q. Washington, 20, of Columbus, was charged with improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, and was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
He reportedly was a passenger in a vehicle that deputies observed near the camp entrance after they were dispatched to the area about 2:40 a.m. on a report of gunshots being heard.
Deputies spoke with Washington and the driver of the vehicle, and the pair advised they had been at a party that evening and had traveled back to the camp to retrieve their keys.
Inside the vehicle, deputies observed a handgun in plain view on the passenger side floorboard between Washington’s feet. The two men were ordered out of the vehicle and were patted down for weapons.
Deputies were able to safely remove the handgun from the vehicle, and found that there was not a bullet in the chamber.
Washington told deputies that before the party, he had allowed his brother to use his vehicle and that his brother had left the handgun in the vehicle. He said he was “unsure of what to do with the gun.”
The driver said he was unaware that the gun was in the vehicle and also denied drinking that evening because he was the designated driver. He was released from the scene.
While at the camp, deputies also were able to investigate the underage drinking party. At Dunaway Lodge, they located five vehicles outside of the cabin, multiple containers of alcoholic beverages and a bag containing suspected marijuana.
Deputies contacted representatives from the Kirkmont Center, who reported that the cabin was being used as an Airbnb rental, and granted permission to enter the cabin.
Inside the cabin, deputies also observed multiple open containers of alcohol and also a plastic baggie of suspected marijuana in the window sill.
The following individuals were issued summonses for underage consumption: Joe Rojo, 18, of Columbus; Cassidy M. Clifford, 18, of Orient; Jaydon M. Douglas, 17, of Grove City; Kameron R. Peck, 20, of Grove City; Davion L. Broom, 19, of Galloway; Toby Nanthavong, 19, of Galloway; Erik J. Woodfork, 19, of Urbancrest; Juan A. Rebollar, 19, of Grove City; Eric L.
