Officers of the Russells Point Police Department report a Rawson man and Russells Point man were arrested early Sunday morning for charges of using a weapon while intoxicated and discharge of a weapon on or over prohibited premises.
Rodney Taylor, 55, of Russells Point, and Scott Brooks, 45, of Rawson, were lodged in the Logan County Jail after the incident that occurred about 12:30 a.m.
Officers were dispatched to the area of State Route 708 near the Russells Point Recycling Center regarding sounds of gun shots.
While en route, officers said they heard several additional shots, drawing them to the area of 126 Kress Avenue. As officers walked up to the property, they noticed several shell casings likely shot from an assault rifle.
They located two individuals and identified them as Brooks and Taylor. Both defendants reportedly were intoxicated and admitted to drinking throughout the evening.
Officers eventually learned the two had rapid-fired a rifle multiple times over the tree tops within the residential area. They were placed under arrest without incident.
Troopers of the Ohio State Patrol Highway Patrol also assisted at the scene.
