Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded about 3:40 p.m. Monday to a two-vehicle injury crash on U.S. Route 68 near Township Road 219 just north of the city limits. Deanna L. Herford, 44, of Belle Center, was transported by Bellefontaine EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital for non-incapacitating injuries. Deputies report Dalton M. Peters, 18, of Bellefontaine, was northbound on U.S. 68 (in above vehicle) when he struck the rear of Ms. Herford’s northbound Jeep, which had stopped for traffic. Mr. Peters, who was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead, did not report any injuries. Damage was heavy to both vehicles, and both drivers were wearing their seat belts. Deputies were assisted by the Bellefontaine Police Department. Numerous crashes have been reported on Logan County roads in conjunction with the first snow of the season. Numerous winter weather crashes reported
Deputies responded to a number of non-injury weather-related crashes over the weekend and Monday:
• Ryan Spatz, 16, of Bellefontaine, was operating a northbound pickup on County Road 25 just west of State Route 540 about 7:55 a.m. Friday when he lost control on a curve and drove off the right side of the road. His pickup then overturned and struck a tree, causing heavy damage to his vehicle.
• Two separate crashes were reported on County Road 28 at County Road 291 on Friday morning.
At 7:39 a.m., when Sharleen Carter, 40, of West Liberty, was operating a northbound pickup and lost control on the ice-covered road and drove off the left side, striking a sign and then the ditch. Damage was light to the pickup.
Then about 7:45 a.m., Timothy Lamb, 29, of West Liberty, was operating a northbound car that slid on the ice and struck a northbound sport utility vehicle operated by Maria Salmonwicz, 20, of Zanesfield. Damage was light to both vehicles.
No citations were issued in either crash.
• James Homan, 39, of Belle Center, was cited for failure to control following a crash about 10:10 p.m. Sunday.
He was operating a northbound car on State Route 638 just north of County Road 113 when he lost control and slid off the right side of the road, striking a utility pole. Damage to his car was moderate.
• David Downing, 54, of Bellefontaine, was operating an eastbound car on County Road 10 just west of U.S. Route 33 about 6:30 a.m. Friday when he lost control on the icy road and went off the left side. His car struck a utility pole and a tree, causing moderate damage to the vehicle. No citations were issued.
• Robert Andrews, 54, of DeGraff, was driving an eastbound pickup about 1:30 p.m. Friday on State Route 245 near County Road 47 when he lost control and his vehicle went sideways, sliding off the road and coming to rest in a creek. Damage to the pickup was light, and no citations were issued.
• Kristy K. Bulluck, 31, of Bellefontaine, reportedly was operating a southbound vehicle on Township Road 179 at Township Road 185 about 4:40 p.m. Monday when she drove off the left side of the road and struck a mailbox. Damage to her vehicle was light and no citations were issued.
