Blade Q. Scott, 19, of Belle Center, was transported by BMRT EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital for injuries sustained in a crash Saturday evening after he reportedly suffered from a medical issue and then his vehicle struck a residence.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report he was operating an eastbound car on State Route 273 about 10:20 p.m. when he went off the right side of the road and struck a house at 230 W. Main St., Belle Center.
Scott told deputies that while driving that evening, he began to feel like he was going to have a seizure and that he has a history of seizures. He said he tried to stop his vehicle as quickly as he could, but his vision then went black, and the next thing he remembered was being loaded into an ambulance.
The passenger in the vehicle, Travis L. May, 30, of Belle Center, told deputies that he noticed Scott begin to slam on the brakes and he then started to have a seizure. The driver then reportedly stepped on the accelerator and struck the house.
A resident inside the home told deputies that she had been inside the kitchen when she heard a “screeching sound” and then felt her house shake.
She then ran outside and observed that the driver apparently was having a seizure, as he was shaking and convulsing.
Both the driver and passenger were wearing their seat belts. Damage was heavy to the car, which was towed from the scene.
