Riverside Schools Board of Education members were updated during a brief Tuesday evening meeting about an afterschool initiative to assist elementary students with the third grade reading guarantee, and also approved a trip to Costa Rica next summer for high school Spanish students.
Superintendent Scott Mann said the elementary school’s ninth-period program enables pupils to stay after school for extra reading help in preparation for the state assessment. Teachers approved to assist with the initiative for sessions one and two this school year and to be paid at the rate of $18 per hour included: Dawn Core, Sarah Franck, Melanie Easton, Mandy Cotterman and LoriLongbrake.
The superintendent also noted the district will continue this year to receive targeted reading intervention through its receipt of a four-year Ohio Department of Education Early Literacy Grant.
