Six young ladies from Indian Lake High School will gain valuable experience in the operation of government and make friends for a lifetime at Buckeye Girls State this summer.
Selected to attend this year’s conference at the University of Mount Union campus are: Sierra DeWeese, daughter of Derek DeWeese of Lewistown; Heidi Hoffman, daughter of Kurtis Hoffman and Stefanie Everhart of Lewistown; Lily Jenkins, daughter of Melissa Jenkins of Lakeview; Emma King, daughter of Doug and April King of Huntsville; Paige Mefford, daughter of Daren and Missy Mefford of Lewistown; and Grace Pequignot, daughter of Brett and Mimi Pequignot of Huntsville.
Buckeye Girls’ State is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary of Ohio. It is locally sponsored by the Huntsville Indian Lake Lions Club and the Charles Collins Ladies Auxiliary Post 381.
Participants must meet several qualifications: candidates must be juniors in high school, interested in government and current events, and have an above average scholastic standing. The young women must also demonstrate high moral character, possess strong leadership skills, and have a desire for learning.
