Three people were checked for injuries by medics of the Bellefontaine Fire and EMS Department after a 3:15 p.m. crash Tuesday on Sandusky Avenue east of Main Street, according to officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department.
Motorist Whitney Kylene Boggs, 20, of Bellefontaine, was evaluated for possible injuries while her passengers, Dustin T. Barnes, 21, and Mercedes A. Boggs, 17, both of Bellefontaine, were checked for suspected minor injuries. None were transported by the squad for further treatment.
Officers report Boggs was westbound in a car which was hit in the rear by a sport utility vehicle operated by Chad H. Woodruff, 48, of Bellefontaine. Woodruff was issued a traffic citation for failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead while Boggs was cited for a temporary permit violation.
Damage was moderate to the vehicles.
Motorist charged with OVI
Jared N. Salyer, 19, of 118 N. Heatherhill Drive, was charged Saturday with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and issued traffic citations for excessive and cracking exhaust noises.
An officer was on patrol around 10:25 p.m. and stopped at Patterson Avenue and Main Street when Salyers passed southbound in a car. He reported revved the motor, causing a loud cracking exhaust noise, the officer reports.
The officer followed Salyer to Water Avenue and then west to Detroit Street. Salyer turned southbound and was soon stopped by the officer.
Upon contact with Salyer, the officer noted an odor of alcohol and conducted field sobriety tests which indicated Salyer was under the influence of alcohol.
He submitted a breathalyzer sample of 0.064 which is above the underage limit of 0.02.
He was released to a sober person.
Radio cable cut
James Harbor, 621 W. Auburn Ave., reported Saturday a one-foot section of coax cable leading to a citizen band radio tower on his property was cut out. He provided the name of a suspect, officers report.
