Three people were charged with assault following a physical altercation that occurred about 1:50 a.m. Sunday outside The Beer Vault, 149 W. Columbus Ave.
Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department on patrol observed the fight in progress in the middle of south Detroit Street. Bar security reportedly was in between two suspects, Dean Whetsel Jr., 30, of 213 Walker St., and Keion White, 24, of West Liberty, as they were lying on the ground and Whetsel was punching White with a closed fist.
Another male, Deshawn Deshazor, 25, also of 213 Walker St., was punching White.
Whetsel and Deshazor continued to land punches on White as he laid motionless on the ground.
A Bellefontaine squad was dispatched to the scene and tended to White, who was observed to have a busted lip and multiple facial injuries. He was transported to Mary Rutan Hospital.
The involved parties said the argument leading to the fight started over a named female.
A witness, Tiffany Schwer, of Russells Point, reported that White had struck her outside the bar, damaging her glasses.
Whetsel and Deshazor each was charged with assault, and lodged in Logan County Jail. White was issued a summons for assault at the hospital.
