Two 18-year-old Urbana residents were arrested early this morning by deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office for charges related to a recent rash of golf course break-ins in both Logan and Champaign counties.
Joshua R. Blakely and Skyler Reisinger each were charged with five counts of breaking and entering and one count of possession of criminal tools following a 2:40 a.m. traffic stop on Township Road 190 near Township Road 188.
Deputies initiated the traffic stop after observing a suspicious vehicle near Liberty Hills Course, 665 W. Township Road 30. Both defendants were lodged in the Logan County Jail.
Local deputies continue to confer with Champaign County deputies and officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department related to a series of incidents involving the area golf courses, along with a break-in at T-P Lanes bowling alley, 300 E. Lake Ave., Bellefontaine.
Aug. 31, Bellefontaine officers responded to the bowling alley burglary, and the owner reported that the business had been entered overnight.
That same morning, deputies received a report about 1:15 a.m. of forced entry into the clubhouse at Cherokee Hills Golf Course, 4622 County Road 49, Huntsville. At the clubhouse, deputies found that file cabinets had been ransacked, and an unknown amount of cash had been taken.
Then about 1:50 a.m. Aug. 31, deputies checked on Liberty Hills Golf Course, 665 W. Township Road 30, Bellefontaine, and also found signs of forced entry to the clubhouse at that location. The owners believe cash was taken.
Additional charges are expected against the pair.
