Driver Thomas W. Burkholder, 85, of Urbana, and his passenger, Patricia R. Burkholder, 67, both of Urbana, were transported by BMRT and Huntsville squads to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of suspected minor injuries sustained in a three-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon in the village of Huntsville.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report Mr. Burkholder was operating a southbound 2019 Chevrolet Equinox on Lima Street at Napoleon Street about 2:30 p.m.
His vehicle reportedly struck the rear of a southbound 2015 Chevrolet Impala operated by Renee C. Rupert, 63, of Hillsdale, Mich., that was slowing for a red light at the intersection.
The impact of the crash sent the Rupert vehicle into the rear of a southbound 2018 Honda CR-V operated by Eve M. Rapp, 65, of North Carolina.
The other two drivers did not report any injuries. Damage was heavy to the Burkholder vehicle, which was towed from the scene. The other two vehicles sustained light damage. All of the occupants were wearing their seat belts, deputies said.
• Jordan C. Russell, 32, of Bellefontaine, did not report any injuries after his vehicle struck a metal chair base in the roadway on U.S. Route 68 late Tuesday evening.
Deputies report he was operating a northbound 2017 Honda Civic near Township Road 219 about 11:20 p.m. when his vehicle struck the chair base and then went off the right side of the road, coming to a rest in the ditch. Damage was heavy to the car, which was towed from the scene. The driver was wearing his seat belt and no citations were issued.
