Deputies of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a three-vehicle crash on I-75 Monday afternoon that claimed two of the drivers.
William Baughman, 78, of Botkins, and Turaee Manley, 50, of Lima, each was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the preliminary reports, deputies said Mr. Baughman was operating a southbound truck on I-75 in Anna about 2:20 p.m. and crossed the median into the northbound lanes, where he struck a northbound truck operated by Mr. Manley and also a northbound van.
Two occupants of the van were transported to Wilson Memorial in Sidney for non-lifethreatening injuries. Deputies have not released their names. They were later transferred to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton and were in stable condition.
Neither alcohol nor speed appear to be factors in the crash, but rather a mechanical problem with the Baughman vehicle or vehicle defect might have caused the driver to lose control and cross the median, deputies said.
Also assisting at the scene were Anna Fire and EMS, Sidney Fire and EMS, CareFlight, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Ohio Department of Transportation and Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
