An 11-year-old Lakeview area boy was charged with a misdemeanor count of inducing panic Thursday related to a social media threat he allegedly posted against Indian Lake Schools, officers of the Washington Township Police Department report.
Indian Lake Schools administration was made aware of the social media post with threatening content about 4:15 p.m., and officials quickly contacted Washington Township Police.
The investigation led officers to the 11- year-old’s Lakeview address. Officers confirmed the boy did post on social media a threat stating “he was going to shoot up the school.” He reportedly stated to a family member that the statement was a song that he made up.
The juvenile was taken into custody and lodged in the Logan County Juvenile Detention Center. Washington Township Police Department Chief Rick Core said such statements of threatening nature are not taken lightly.
“Neither the school nor the police department have the luxury of not taking these types of threats seriously. In today’s culture, we have to assume that these threats are genuine and are going to be dealt with swiftly and harshly.”
