The Zanesfield Village Council turned down an offer to take ownership of Hall-Fawcett Park. Jefferson Township will get next crack at the offer.
Members of the Zanesfield Chamber of Commerce and the nonprofit Logan Hills Festival Association, which include many of the same members, attended the Monday evening council meeting for a second month in a row after council previously tabled the matter.
The chamber of commerce owns the land and leases it to the festival association for management purposes.
Those in attendance say the chamber is struggling to maintain an identity and would like a public entity such as the village or township to take ownership of the park to ensure that it remains open to the public.
“If the township doesn’t take the park, we are willing to work with anyone as long as the festival can continue,” association chairman Jeremy Smith said. “We are maintaining the property, but we need new members for the festival and the chamber.”
