Eighteen youths were in attendance from the Environmental Club and Trout Madness group.
Friday evening, the group participated in a program on bats from an Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Wildlife speaker.
Saturday morning, the youths and adults participated in an early hike to identify birds with an ornithologist.
Following breakfast, participants took another hike into the woodlot with a local forester Jim Bartlett with years of experience in woodland management.
After lunch, we have Josh Fairchild from Del Mar Tree service with a talk about tree care and will demonstrate how a portable sawmill works by cutting boards for lumber from a log.
The group also is planning a service project at Camp Kirkmont to install a blue bird trail.
Trout Madness group is a specialized group of students who raise trout in the classroom and release back to the Mad River, learn about the Mad River, stream quality and watershed impacts on the stream.
