A Bellefontaine Middle School student shined at the State MATHCOUNTS competition at Columbus State earlier this month.
Eighth-grader Caden Yoder had a top one-third finish in Ohio, finishing 55th out of 166 students.
The state hosted 13 chapter competitions in February. The top two teams and top four individuals from each chapter qualified for the state competition.
Caden advanced as an individual in the Dayton Chapter Competition on Feb. 17.
Solon Middle School won the Ohio MATHCOUNTS state title and will compete in Washington, D.C., at the Regional MATHCOUNTS competition in April.
MATHCOUNTS is an after school club that meets once a week for roughly an hour. Topics in the competition range from algebra, geometry, probability, number theory, and miscellaneous general math.
Lawrence Miller, a 2011 BHS graduate and engineer, coaches the team.
MATHCOUNTS is only available for sixth- to eighth-grade students. The 2024-2025 season will start at BMS after Labor Day. Contact Bellefontaine Middle School if your child is interested in joining MATHCOUNTS.
