SPRINGFIELD — Troopers of the Springfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are currently investigating a fatal crash that occurred Saturday evening involving a semi tractor-trailer and passenger car on Interstate 70 in Clark County.
The driver of car, Joshua Vanderpool, 30, Enon, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Troopers report Vanderpool was operating a westbound car in the eastbound lanes of I-70 in Mad River Township about 8:20 p.m. An eastbound semi operated by Denis Yatsunov, 43, of Cresskil, N.J., attempted to avoid the wrong-way driver, but the car reportedly followed the semi unit and struck it head-on while on the inside berm of I-70.
Both vehicles caught on fire after the impact.
Yatsunov was transported to Springfield Regional Hospital with minor injury from wearing his seat belt.
The Mad River Township Fire Department and Ohio Department of Transportation assisted at the crash scene.
