Serena R. Fogle, 20, of 10037 County Road 20, West Mansfield, was charged with a felony count of aggravated burglary as a result of an incident Friday evening at a residence in the 5100 block of State Route 540, Bellefontaine.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched about 6 p.m. to a report of a possible burglary in progress.
The homeowners advised they heard a noise outside in their attached garage and upon checking their garage, they found a woman in one of the vehicles and said a second vehicle also had been entered. The residents found a knife that did not belong to them in one of the vehicles.
They stated they had seen the woman at their neighbor’s residence previously, but they did not know her.
When deputies arrived at the home, they spoke with the woman, later identified as Fogle, and asked what she was doing, to which she replied, “I don’t know.” Deputies observed that her cheeks were flushed in color, her eyes were pinpoint and she was extremely sweaty.
On Fogle’s person, deputies located two credit cards that did not belong to her. Deputies also located two bags containing personal items in one of the vehicles. The defendant told deputies she had “just wanted to get away” but “couldn’t get the car to start.” Then she told deputies she didn’t intend to steal the car, just to turn on the air conditioning.
She was placed under arrest and was transported to the Logan County Jail. At the jail, corrections officers removed a clear plastic vial with a crystal-like substance and an empty and capped hypodermic needle from her person. A report also was sent to the Logan County Prosecutor’s Office for potential charges of conveyance of drugs into a detention facility and attempted theft of a motor vehicle.
