West Liberty-Salem’s girls track and field team got the postseason started Tuesday during the first day of Division III district meet at Piqua High School.
The Tigers already qualified to the regional meet in two events and are currently in third place as a team.
Ft. Loramie is leading the girls field with 21.5 points after scoring three events. Anna is currently in second with 19.5 points and WL-Salem is a close third with 19 points. Triad is tied for fifth with 10 points.
The Rockets are leading the boys field with 27 points after scoring four events. The Redskins are holding onto second with 22 points and Ansonia is third with 18 points. The Cardinal boys are in 13th with two points.
The top four placers in each finals event move on to the Division III regional meet next weekend in Troy.
WL-Salem’s girls were sparked by a district title Tuesday from the 3,200 relay of Megan Adams, Ashley Yoder, Madison Bahan and Katelyn Stapleton with a new meet record of 9:27.12.
Placing second in the shot put and advancing for the Tigers was Selena Weaver with a throw of 33-2 1/4. Also for the Tigers, Mandy Weaver took eighth in the high jump (4-8).
Triad’s girls saw Cayla Eaton win a district title in the high jump with a height of 5-3 and secure a regional berth.
The Cardinal boys had one placer Tuesday with Tyler Gross, who finished seventh in the discus with a toss of 118-8.
WL-Salem’s girls had several athletes qualify to the running event finals on Saturday afternoon. That included Grace Estes and Kaylee LeVan in the 100, Emily Hollar and Madison Bahan in the 400, Stapleton and Yoder in the 800, Sophia Hardwick in the 100 hurdles, Claire Longshore in the 300 hurdles, the 400 relay of LeVan, Stapleton, Lilly Weaver and Estes, the 800 relay of LeVan, Estes, Bahan and Hollar and the 1,600 relay of Stapleton, Bahan, Estes and Hollar.
Triad also saw Eaton qualify to the 300 hurdles finals.
The Division III district meet concludes Saturday with field events starting at 10 a.m. and running events starting at 11:30 a.m.
