West Liberty-Salem High School student Luke Hudson, a senior Calc Club member, wraps gifts for Christmas deliveries in a collaborative effort in the district to adopt 29 pupils from all grade levels and their families for the holiday season. Matt Westfall, elementary student counselor, is in charge of the program each year. In the fall, he started reaching out to all teachers to learn about families who may need the blessing this Christmas. Once his list was complete, he began reaching out to local churches, businesses and other charitable organizations to help purchase gifts. The student organization Calc Club also donated several items and helped with wrapping. “In this particularly hard season, the impact of this program just seemed bigger this year,” district officials said. “Administrators spent the last two mornings loading and delivering three truck loads of gifts including clothes, bikes, dollhouses, dolls, other toys and stocking stuffers. We are grateful to be able to give joy back to students who bring us joy all year.” (WEST LIBERTY-SALEM PHOTO)
