Windmill Productions is hosting an open public reading of Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird at 6 p.m. Friday at the Holland Theatre.
The local theater troupe would like to present the drama in late August but there has been some difficulty identifying an ethnically diverse cast to fill the roles. The script calls for four speaking roles written specifically for African American actors and numerous extras for courtroom and other scenes.
Other roles include an approximately 9-year-old actress for the part of Scout and two boys, approximately 11 or 12 years old, for Jem and Dill. There are a total of nine adult male speaking roles and seven female roles along with numerous extras needed for various scenes in and outside the courtroom.
The show is directed by Forrest Amidon and Kris Swisher and, if a cast can be identified, will be presented Aug. 19, 20 and 21.
