Wilfred Lee Hill, 73, of Bellefontaine, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 16th, 2016, at his residence.
He was born on Aug. 5, 1942, in Dayton, to the late Herbert Eugene and Clarinda Elizabeth (Creswell) Hill.
He was also preceded in death by his son, Russell (Rusty) Eugene Hill; nephew, Michael Hill, aunts (namely his Aunt Audrey of whom he spoke often); uncles; cousins; and many in-laws.
Wilfred “Bill” is survived by a son, Sean Alexander; a daughter, Michelle Denise; granddaughter, Skylar Dawn Driskill; brothers, Wayne (Din) Hill and Darrell (Diana) Hill; nieces and nephews, Lisa (Neal) Worrell, Laura (Pete) Wood, Danielle (Robert) Sharp, Tracey Metzger, Kelly Moss and all of their children. He is also survived by his granddaughter’s mother, Jennifer (Vince) Plikerd and her children, Peyton, Avery and Mayson; his former wife, Edna Louise (Russell) Church; brother in-law, William Russell; sister in-law, Melissa (Alan) Collins; aunt, Elsie; cousin, Wayne (Linda) Culham; and their families.
Bill attended Wilbur Wright High School in Dayton.
He was drafted at the age of 22 to serve in The United States Army as a soldier in the Vietnam War, where he was an Honest John/Little John missile crewman and received the Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Marksman (Rifle M-14). He was Honorably Discharged in 1966.
Having a vast knowledge of the workings of machinery, devices and associated systems, he worked for various Companies in the Dayton area, including NCR, GHR Foundry, Stranze Service Company, Zimmerle Cleaners and his own, W.L. Hill Service Co. He later retired from Inland Division of GM as a millwright.
A lifelong fisherman and a diehard Cincinnati Reds fan, he was a member of the American Legion Post 888 and the VFW. He enjoyed his whiskey.
A memorial service is at a11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 22, at Jennings Farley Funeral Home & Crematory, 5591 U.S. Route 68, West Liberty.
