Mary Hoelscher, 19, of Maria Stein, was charged with a felony count of improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle related to a Monday afternoon traffic stop.
Officers of the Washington Township Police Department on patrol about 1:10 p.m. initiated the stop on State Route 274 near Township Road 94 for a speed violation. Upon making contact with Hoelscher, the odor of marijuana was observed coming from the vehicle.
The driver admitted there was drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. During a search of the vehicle, a handgun and loaded magazines were located in Hoelscher’s purse. Drug paraphernalia and an alcoholic beverages were also located.
Hoelscher was taken into custody and lodged in the Logan County Jail. The Logan County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
