Logan County voters this week are receiving postcards in the mail that detail the updated election procedures for this year’s primary election, which will take place almost entirely by mail.
The Ohio General Assembly has set April 28 as the date on which the primary election will be completed after in-person voting on March 17 was blocked by an order from Ohio Department of Health Director Dr. Amy Acton to combat the spread of COVID-19.
Anyone requesting an absentee ballot must do so by Friday, April 25. The only in-person ballots that will be accepted will be from those with certain physical disabilities, or individuals without a home mailing address.
Completed vote-by-mail ballots must be postmarked by April 27 or dropped off by 7:30 p.m. April 28 at the Logan County Board of Elections, 225 S. Main St., Bellefontaine.
The 7.8 million postcards sent out statewide detail how to request an absentee ballot to vote by mail, including the following:
• Visit www.voteohio.gov, print, and fill out the vote-by-mail ballot request form, sign it, affix postage, and mail it to your county board of elections.
• Call the Logan County Board of Elections, (937) 599-7255, and ask them to send you a ballot request form, fill out the form, sign it, affix postage, and mail it to Logan County Board of Elections, 225 S. Main St., Bellefontaine, Ohio, 43311.
• Voters who can’t print their own form may also simply write the following information on a blank sheet of paper and mail it to their board of elections: full name, date of birth, full registration address including county, address where ballot should be mailed if different from your registration address; and one of the following: Ohio driver’s license number, last four of your social security number or include a copy of an acceptable form of ID. State that “I’m a qualified elector and I’m requesting an absentee ballot for the March 17 Ohio primary.” Indicate if you want a: Democratic, Republican, Libertarian, or Issues Only ballot (choose only one). Include a signature and the date, phone number and e mail address are optional, but suggested.
