Volunteers from the American Red Cross-Northern Miami Valley Ohio Chapter and the Indian Joint Fire District team up to provide free home installation of smoke detectors for residents in the Russells Point area.
The free smoke detectors are 10-year scaled photo-electric models, new technology promoted by the State Fire Marshall. Detectors that are 6 to 10 years old need to be replaced, as sensors can become clogged from household dust and malfunction even when batteries have been replaced.
Volunteers also will help residents develop a fire escape plan, complete a safety checklist, inspect and install units, replace batteries and teach residents how to test and maintain their units.
Installations are by pre-scheduled appointments Saturday, April 23. Call 843-2245 extension 5 to make an appointment.
