Soon after Krista McDonald started working at the Bellefontaine Police Department, it became apparent she was something special, Chief Brandon Standley said during a Monday evening vigil to honor the fallen dispatcher.

“We’re all suffering and it makes no sense to do it alone,” he told the crowd of 100 outside the Municipal Building. “Krista was wonderful person who gave herself to public service.”
That service for the 41-year-old mother of two included her full-time job as a police dispatcher, part-time dispatching jobs for the Logan and Hardin county sheriff’s departments and medic assignments with the Southeast Hardin Ambulance District.
