A city man injured in an industrial accident at Honda Transmission Manufacturing was recovering from surgery on Monday.
An Indian Lake squad responded to the 6964 State Route 235, Russells Point, plant on a report of a man whose foot was burned about 8 p.m. Friday. He was flown by a CareFlight helicopter to the burn center at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton.
The Examiner has learned the individual was Marcus Taylor, 38, of Bellefontaine. Hospital staff confirmed he was in recovery Monday.
While not identifying Taylor, Honda spokesman Don Hensley said the associate was performing maintenance in area that has molten aluminum for casting transmission and transfer cases.
He reportedly stepped backwards onto a fiber blanket covering a small opening and it wrapped around his leg.
“The blanket did its job of keeping him out of the molten metal,” Hensley said. “However, the blanket was very hot.”
The associate sustained serious burns from the calf down.
HTM is following internal protocols with an investigation and has notified the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
