URBANA — Officers of the Urbana Police Department are currently seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect who is involved in a theft from an ATM machine by utilizing a skimmer device.
Officers first were alerted Sunday afternoon by a bank customer at People’s Savings and Loan Bank, 618 Scioto St., after the individual had discovered the skimmer device attached to the ATM machine.
Police have been working closely with bank officials since then trying to identify customers who may have been victim to the skimmer theft, as well as attempting to identify the suspect who placed the device there.
The suspect is described as a white male, medium build with a pot belly, dark short cut hair, wearing a white with dark striped Tshirt, and dark shorts with light colored stripes. His vehicle is described as a light colored, possibly gray or blue minivan. Police believe it may have out of state license plates on it.
In addition to the skimmer device recovered, police also have recovered a pin camera that had been placed on the machine strategically by the suspect to obtain additional personal information from the customer as they used the ATM. These items will be processed by a crime lab to see if additional information can be obtained to assist police in their investigation.
Police believe this device may have been on the ATM machine for more than a week. As of Wednesday afternoon, several customers have been identified as being victims.
Police are asking anyone with information on these crimes and or any possible suspect to contact them at (937) 652-4350.
