West Liberty-Salem Schools announced in a One Call message Sunday that district classes were to be delayed one-hour Monday, Oct. 8, in response to the death of a district student in a motor vehicle crash.
Student Devin Marchal, 16, was claimed in a crash Sunday afternoon in the 3800 block of U.S. Route 68 south of West Liberty in Champaign County, according to social media and published reports.
Deputies of the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the crash.
They report Devin was southbound in a car and traveled left of center around 3:15 p.m., colliding with a truck operated by Tressa Wright, 48.
The truck burst into flames and Wright was pulled from it by other motorists at the scene. She was transported to Grimes Field Airport and flown by CareFlight helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital.
Devin was declared dead at the scene.
Mac-O-Chee squad and West Liberty Fire Department responded to the scene.
