Crash result of stop sign violation

A fatal crash in Champaign County appears to be the result of a motorist ignoring a stop sign, investigators report.
Warren Stevens, 75, a member of the Urbana City Schools and Ohio Hi-Point Joint Vocational School boards, died from injuries incurred in the 6:25 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, crash on Ludlow Road at Kanagy Road.
Deputies of the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office report his northbound car was struck in the side by a westbound sport utility vehicle operated by Kristen Reed, 44, of St. Paris.
The Stevens car spun around and was hit by a southbound pickup truck operated by Tracey Leighty, 29, of Mt. Gilead, who was transported to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Ms. Reed and passenger Pauline Reed, 64, of Urbana, were transported to Mercy Hospital of Urbana for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Mr. Stevens was pronounced dead at the scene.
The West Liberty Fire Department, Macochee squad and Urbana Fire and EMS Department responded to the crash scene as did the Multi-County Crash Investigation Team covering Champaign, Hardin, Logan and Union counties,
The investigation continues.
