Gilbert “Gil” C Myers Sr., 78 of Bellefontaine, passed away at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus surrounded by family and friends after his second battle with Cancer on Thursday, Dec. 12th, 2019 just an hour before his 79th birthday.
Gil was born Dec. 13th 1940, the son of Annabelle (Roberts) Myers and Raymond L. Myers. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; brother, Raymond Myers; sister, Margaret E. Myers; grandaughter, Christina Mae Cook.
He is survived by his six children, Valerina Suzette, Rita Horne, Gilbert Myers Jr., Leora Crosby, Heidi Myers and Johanna Myers; 19 grandchildren, Heather Ann Mollis, Sarah Monroe, Carrie Stockton, Derek Horne, Chad Horne, Tonya Horne, Patricia Sue (Seifert), Deedee Preston, Bobby Myers, Johnny Gipson, Rose Myers, Dylan Myers, Annabelle Myers, Curtis Myers, Quintin Myers, Erica Justin, Michael Justin, Brittany Myers (Eaton); 32 great-grand children; and one great-great-grandchild; and his companion, Patricia Losey of many years. Additionally, multiple people that he considered his own and lifetime close friends.
One of his first jobs was working on the NYC Railroad, Eastern Divsion, as a roundhouse laborer apprentice in Bellefontaine as well working at the Indian Lake Playland Park running the dodgems ride. He then started his career as a painter working at Navistar formally known as International Harvester in Springfield retiring after 43 years. During his retirement he attended as many car shows he could all while attending as many of his grandchildrens sports games. He participated in the Local Relay for Life events every year. He has spent the last year enjoying the Florida weather living just minutes from the beach in Ruskin, Florida.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Wednesday December 18th at Jennings Farley & Seeley Funeral Home & Crematory 5591 US Rt 68 South. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 -7:00 PM. Burial will be in Huntsville Cemetery. Email condolences may be directed to www.jenningsfarley.com.
