For years, United Way has asked for monetary donations. Now, they are seeking blood donors.
United Way is partnering with Community Blood Center and Union Station to host regularly scheduled blood drives in Logan County.
Blood collected through these drives will service hospitals in a 15-county region, including Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine.
The first Blood Drive will take place Friday, April 22, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the parking lot of Union Station, 613 Hamilton St., Bellefontaine.
Blood donors are encouraged to make an appointment. Visit www.uwlogan.org and click GIVE BLOOD or call (937) 461-3220.
All donors who give at the April 22 Blood Drive will receive a free T-shirt. One donor on that date will receive tickets to a Dayton Dragons baseball game.
Walk-ins are accepted as space allows.
Each day, Community Blood Services schedules up to seven mobile blood drives (indoor and bloodmobile) are scheduled throughout the CBC service area.
At least 250 pints of whole blood must be collected daily from volunteer donors to supply hospitals and sufficiently meet patient transfusion needs. The annual need is projected at more than 70,000 units of blood products. All donated blood becomes part of the general blood supply. Each unit of blood is tested, typed, processed, and then distributed daily to the area hospitals.
Additional United Way Blood Drives will take place on Friday, June 17; Friday, Aug. 12; Friday, Oct. 21; and Thursday, Dec. 22.
