Travis L. May, 31, of 509 S. Detroit St., Apt. 4, was charged Monday with having physical control of motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
Around 11:20 p.m., he was found passed out in the driver’s seat of a station wagon parked outside Community Markets, 309 N. Main St.
Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department were able to rouse him but he started to nod off again.
Officers continued efforts to keep May conscious, and at one point, he attempted to restart the vehicle. He complied with orders to not start the vehicle, hand over the keys to officer and exit the vehicle.
He was visibly unsteady on his feet and he had trouble communicating with officers.
Officers conducted field sobriety tests and concluded May was impaired by drugs. He refused to provide a urine sample for laboratory testing.
• Phillip M. Wallace, 35, of 214 Pratt St., Apt. 9, was charged with possession of marijuana and obstructing official business after a 7:30 p.m. hit-skip crash Monday.
He also was cited for leaving the scene of a crash, driving suspension and failure to control.
Witnesses observed him exit a car that hit a utility pole in the area of Elm Street and Auburn Avenue and walk away with Trista Cole.
The two were stopped by officers at the intersection of Main Street and Chillicothe Avenue.
They admitted they had been in a crash but Wallace said Cole was driving and swerved to avoid a deer crossing the road. He maintained he was not driving even as officers confronted about five witnesses who saw Wallace driving the car.
Officers arrested him for continually lying about driving the car. A small amount of marijuana was recovered from his clothing.
Field sobriety tests did not indicate he was impaired by alcohol or drugs.
