COLUMBUS — Trooper Matthew D. Himes of the Ohio State Highway Patrol was promoted to the rank of sergeant July 10 and was recognized this week by Patrol Superintendent Colonel Paul A. Pride during a ceremony at the Patrol’s Academy.

Sgt. Himes, who began his patrol career in September 2002 as a member of the 140th academy class, will transfer from his current assignment at the West Jefferson Post to serve as an assistant post commander at the Marysville Post, where he was assigned in 2003 and was selected Trooper of the Year in 2006.
In 2007, he transferred to the West Jefferson Post. He earned the Ace Award for excellence in auto larceny enforcement in 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2014. He earned a Certificate of Recognition in 2013 and the Criminal Patrol Award in 2005 and 2006 and from 2008 through 2014.
Sgt. Himes was selected as Post Trooper of the Year from 2008 through 2011, and in 2011, he was selected as District Trooper of the Year.
