Albert Watson Jr., 27, and Demas Yohannes, 29, both of Columbus, and Mikel Cundiff, 26, of Canton, each was arrested Tuesday evening for tampering with evidence related to an incident at the Midway Marathon Store, 8758 Township Road 239, Lakeview.
An officer of the Washington Township Police Department reportedly was paying for gasoline at the gas station about 10:45 p.m. when he observed a man purchase a large amount of cigarettes with multiple credit cards. The gas station clerk also informed the officer that the man and his companions had been acting suspiciously while inside the business.
As the officer began to leave the Midway Marathon, he observed the vehicle drive to a nearby trash can and discard multiple credit cards.
A traffic stop was conducted and the occupants were identified as Watson, Yohannes and Cundiff. An investigation was conducted and a probable cause search was completed on the vehicle.
Multiple credit cards, believed to be stolen, and approximately 75 cartons of cigarettes valued at approximately $5,000 were recovered from the vehicle.
The occupants were placed under arrest for tampering with evidence and transported to the Logan County Jail. The investigation continues and additional charges are expected to be filed. The U.S. Secret Service is assisting with the investigation.
