Like a modern day Johnny Appleseed,Brent Devitt has been helping Ohio’s urban forest get a little greener as each mile passes on his 250-mile round trip tricycle adventure through western Ohio.

The Trecycle trek landed him in Bellefontaine overnight Sunday for two tree plantings this morning at the Simon Kenton Trail parking area along Carter Avenue and at Southview Park.
Mr. Devitt began his journey Friday in his hometown of Beavercreek before riding south on his recumbent tricycle to Cincinnati. Saturday, he made his way north to Spring Valley, south of Xenia, where he lodged for the night before proceeding north through Springfield, Urbana and into Bellefontaine on Sunday evening.
He camped overnight near Campbell Hill and then made his way to the highest point in Ohio this morning before taking the swift downhill ride to resume his arboreal efforts.
His goal was to raise $1,000, which he exceeded, to plant 50 trees. Local communities that could match that commitment were selected.
“I was inspired by David Cornthwaite and his program to encourage other people to take adventures to plant trees,” Mr. Devitt said. “I consulted with him and he encouraged me to take this adventure.
