Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a report of a hit-skip crash involving a semi tractor-trailer that struck a sport utility vehicle Thursday afternoon.
Deputies report Wayne L. Smith, 65, of Indiana, was operating a northbound SUV on U.S. Route 68 at 5:05 p.m. and then slowed to make a left turn onto Township Road 51. A northbound semi then reportedly attempted to pass the SUV on the left side and struck the left front of the SUV.
The semi then left the scene.
Smith and his passenger did not report any injuries. They were wearing their seat belts.
Woman reports dating service scam
Deputies received a report Wednesday from a Rushsylvania woman who said she was defrauded out of $20,000 after corresponding with an individual through an online dating service.
The woman reported that she met the person through a dating application called the Farmer’s Dating Service. He reportedly told her he was stationed in Nigeria with the armed forces, and that during the period of a few weeks, she thought they were going to get married.
Over a period of time, she said he convinced her to send her personal information, including the last four digits of her Social Security number. She also reportedly sent him pictures of several of her credit cards and sent him approximately $4,000 worth of Apple watches and other merchandise in the mail to an address in Nigeria.
