The second attempt to open the Shady Bowl Speedway season was successful Saturday as five divisions of racing went off as planned.
In the late model feature, Columbus driver Buddy Townsend grabbed the lead on a restart after Jacob Muncy ran into mechanical troubles on lap 11. Townsend and Matthew Parsons waged a battle for the top spot, with Townsend holding on for the win and Parsons settling for second. JIm Lewis Jr., Caleb Reschar and fast qualifier Josh Smith rounded out the top five.

In addition to his win, Townsend earned the hard charger bonus for improving the most spots.
The modified feature saw Chris Prater lead the first 16 laps. West Liberty resident Chris Parker then jumped in front and led the rest of the way to get the win. Logan McPherson, fast qualifier Daniel McPherson and Prater filled out the top five. Parker also won the hard charger award.

In the 25-lap street stock feature, Muncy led the first nine laps but then had mechanical issues. From there Shawn Stansell, fast qualifier Josh Sage and Buck Purtee battled for the lead.
In the end, Stansell finished out front, Sage was second and Purtee finished third. Josh Smith was fourth and Josh Longstreth took fifth. Sage won the hard charger award.
Josh Foltz led from start to finish to win the compact feature. Jimmy McElfresh, Nick Barrett, Damien Killen and Dillon Higgenbotham filled out the rest of the top five. The hard charger award went to Killen.
The 15-lap pure stock feature was won by Zach Doolin. It was his first ever feature win. Zach Brandyberry and Lane Crabtree were second and third.
Racing is back at Shady Bowl on Saturday. The CRA street stocks will highlight the night with a 200-lap feature. Racing begins at 7 p.m.
This Saturday night (4/15) will see the CRA Street Stocks visit the speedway to run a 200 lap feature. This is a “must see” for local fans as it is always one of the best events of the year. The modifieds, pure stocks and compacts will also see action. There will also be an Easter egg hunt for the younger fans. Racing will start at 7.
