A property that is rich in history in the village of Zanesfield was the site of a recent discovery of items from approximately 65 years ago that gives a peek into the lives of the children who lived at the home at that time, now also coincidentally during the village’s 200th anniversary this year.

During a kitchen remodeling project at their 2820 Sandusky St., home during the past month, Eldonna Ashley and her husband, Roger, found a time capsule likely compiled in 1954 or 1955 and then placed in the molding of kitchen cabinetry.
Inside a sturdy paper tablet housing the time capsule were various playing cards, Wild West trading cards, airplane cards featuring military aircraft, Lone Ranger toy advertisements and other miscellaneous items, likely put together by the children of LaVern Fred and Lillian May Butterfield Zell who lived there at the time.
“It was a fun discovery looking through all of the items,” Mrs. Ashley said earlier this month. “Based on the toy-related items found, we are guessing that it was the children of the household that put it together. It was neat to think about what might have been going through their minds when they gathered up the items they wanted to be remembered.”
