West Liberty-Salem’s high-octane offense continued to stay hot Friday as the Tigers throttled host Northeastern 41-0 in an Ohio Heritage Conference North division football game.
The Tigers, who are ranked seventh in the latest Division V state poll, improve to 8-1 overall and 3-1 in the league. The Jets drop their fourth straight to reach 2-7, 0-4.
WL-S piled up 438 total yards. Senior quarterback Trevor Woodruff led the charge again, completing 20-of-28 passes for 286 yards and three touchdowns.
The Tigers’ defense was also impressive by holding the Jets to just 73 total yards of offense.
WL-S built a 27-0 lead at halftime.
In the first quarter, Woodruff threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Ethan Larson and a 3-yard touchdown pass to Jace Wade. A pair of extra-point kicks by Ethan Cole put the Tigers on top 14-0.
Woodruff used his legs in the second quarter for a 2-yard touchdown run. That gave the Tigers a 21-0 lead with 5:22 left to play in the half.
Isaiah McGill added a 5-yard touchdown run with 46 seconds to go in the second quarter.
McGill found the end zone again in the third quarter on a 5-yard TD run to make the score 34-0 with 8:58 left to play in the period.
Also in the third quarter, Woodruff found Wade for a 20-yard TD strike to give the Tigers a 41-0 lead at the 3:40 mark.
Neither team reached the end zone in the fourth quarter.
McGill finished with 85 rushing yards on 17 carries. Nick Burden led the receivers with 108 yards on seven grabs, Wade had 63 receiving yards on four catches and Zach Glock had 66 receiving yards on four catches.
Defensively for the Tigers, Trenton Douthwaite led with five tackles and an interception, Jake Wilcoxon had 4 1/2 tackles and Kyle Wolfe had four tackles.
WL-Salem finishes the regular season at home on Friday against state-ranked Mechanicsburg.
