West Liberty-Salem’s girls basketball team jumped out to a big halftime lead and went on to take a 47-25 victory over host Bellefontaine in the season opener for both squads on Saturday.
The Tigers (1-0) led 15-2 after one quarter and they stretched their lead to 30-10 at halftime.
WL-S held a 35-17 advantage after three quarters and outscored the Chiefs 12 -8 in the final quarter.
Chaley Wade and Maddie Cole each had 11 points to lead the Tigers. Megan Hollar had eight points and Addie McAuley chipped in six points.
Alexis Robinson led the Chiefs with 11 points.
In the junior varsity game, WL-S won 29-8. Ava Poppe led the Tigers with 13 points.
Bellefontaine is back in action Wednesday at home against Indian Lake and the Tigers will host Russia on Saturday.
