BURDEN |
Although West Liberty-Salem’s football team got off to a slow start this fall, it caught fire down the stretch to earn another playoff berth.
One of the team’s top players was recognized for his role in the team’s success Wednesday night.
Junior offensive/defensive lineman Trevor Burden was named special mention all-Ohio in Division VI.
A 6-3, 255-pounder, Burden excelled from his guard spot on the Tigers’ offensive line. A two-year starter, he was selected to the all-Ohio Heritage Conference first team this season.
Also a standout on defense, Burden tallied 26 tackles, with five for loss. He also returned two interceptions for touchdowns and recorded three sacks.
The Tigers went 6-4 in the regular season, winning their last four games. They then fell to powerhouse Marion Local 34-7 in the first round of the postseason. The Flyers will be playing for a state title this weekend in Columbus.
