While bouquets of flowers and fine jewelry are always appreciated for Valentine’s Day, a Bellefontaine bakery also has a number of options for the upcoming holiday for gift givers to show their love and gratitude to their spouses, children, grandchildren, teachers, co-workers and others through tasty treats in a variety of handmade items to satisfy any sweet tooth.
City Sweets & Creamery owner Angie Hall said Wednesday that gearing up for Feb. 14 is one of the busiest times of the year for the business. Some of the most popular items typically include their chocolate-dipped strawberries, along with caramel apples and caramel pretzels that are created by Stacey Longshore, local owner of the Sweet Life Kitchen.
“We usually sell a couple hundred dozen of the chocolate-covered strawberries, and I also expect we’ll sell a couple hundred of the caramel apples,” she said.
“We invite customers to place an order ahead of time if they’re able to and we’ll have it ready to go. We’ll also have many grab and go items that people can stop in to pick up along the way, including the chocolate-covered strawberries, while supplies last.”
To help last-minute Valentine’s Day shoppers, Hall noted that the business opens at 5:30 a.m. Feb. 14 and remains open until 9 p.m.
“I know we’ll get some people in here who are frantic about not having a gift yet, and we can help them out,” she said.
Throughout the month of February, City Sweets & Creamery also is promoting “cherry month” by going “a little over the top for cherry flavored items,” Hall said, by selling cherry cake donuts, cherry fritters, cherry-filled long-johns, cherry turnovers and cherry danishes.
In addition, other decorated Valentine’s items include cakes, cupcakes, cookies, cake pops, donuts, buckeyes, dipped Oreos, strawberry cheesecake and cinnamon red hot popcorn, heart-shaped brownies, Rice Krispie treats, petit cakes and macaroons.
For specialty cake orders for the holiday or other times of year, Hall noted that a 48-hour notice is typically needed.
The owner invites community members to stop by with their families to enjoy dine-in seating at the store, or to take orders to go, with a pick-up window option available as well. The business can be reached at 592-0097.
