A 27-year-old suspect in a Monday domestic violence incident, in which he rammed his ex-girlfriend’s sport utility vehicle, was arrested Wednesday after he was spotted driving in Bellefontaine.
James M. Tomlin, at large, was located in his car parked at the Logan County Library, 220 N. Main St., at 5:20 p.m. An officer of the Bellefontaine Police Department used his cruiser to block Tomlin from driving off.
He approached the suspect and warned him to comply or face apprehension by the department’s police dog.
Tomlin complied and was taken into custody on charges of felonious assault and domestic violence. He also was issued a traffic citation for leaving the scene of a crash.
He was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
Monday, Brianna Lump told officers she was in the process of moving out of the couple’s 421 Kent Drive, Apt. 6, apartment when the suspect confronted her on Carter Avenue around 8:40 p.m. Tomlin attempted to use his car to block Lump’s SUV but she was able to drive away with the suspect chasing after her.
Lump’s path of flight took her east to Main Street; south to Lake Avenue; and west to County Road 32. She traveled northbound but Tomlin was able to pull ahead and block her path.
She turned the SUV southbound and fled to County Road 11 and east toward the city. She turned north on Troy Road with the suspect in pursuit and he allegedly drove into the passenger side of her SUV at Columbus Avenue. She was on the phone to 911 dispatchers at the time.
She was able to continue northbound after the crash to Sandusky Avenue before turn eastbound to the police station.
The suspect drove away as Lump turned into the municipal building parking lot.
Tuesday, she returned to the Kent Drive residence to find damage to the walls and her laptop computer.
Officers noted bruising on her arms which she said happened Saturday when the suspect grabbed her by the arms and attempted to take her cell phone.
City resident faces indecency charge
Ryan M. Irwin, 41, of 301 Plumvalley St., was charged with public indecency Wednesday after he allegedly fondled himself in front of a 26-year-old woman in a municipal parking lot in the 100 block of south Detroit Street.
An officer responded to the parking lot shortly before 4 p.m. and found the suspect reclined in the driver’s seat of a van. The officer approached and noted Irwin’s shorts were unzipped and unbuttoned with the belt undone.
The victim told officers she was walking with her two children to her van parked in the lot when the suspect drove by very slowly before parking near her van.
He then allegedly opened his door, unbuckled his shorts and proceeded to pleasure himself, the victim reported.
Irwin denied the allegations as he was taken into custody. Officers found a plastic wrapper with methamphetamine inside a rolled up $1 bill in a pocket of his shorts.
The suspect was lodged in jail and may face additional charges after the contraband is tested at a crime laboratory.
