Sept. 19 opening day set
For all the construction that’s obvious from the outside of the West Liberty-Salem K-12 campus, just as much is work is happening on the inside as construction crews work to ensure the building is habitable in time for the first day of classes.
West Liberty-Salem students head back to school Sept. 19. Unlike last year, though, when wet summer weather contributed to delays installing a new roof on the facility, and the first day of classes was pushed back a couple weeks into the middle of September, the later start to this school year has been planned well in advance.
According to project plans, a major portion of the work is to be completed this summer as common areas throughout the facility, such as the high school media center/library, gymnasiums, kitchen, cafeteria, band room and administrative offices, each undergo a major renovation.
“I feel confident that we’ll be ready to open our doors when it comes time for the first day of school,” Superintendent Kraig Hissong said by phone last week from his temporary office.
