Benjamin Logan Elementary fourth-graders received a detailed look at state government during a field trip to Columbus Friday, Dec. 2, with stops at the Supreme Court of Ohio and the Ohio Statehouse.
The Capitol Square Foundation created a transportation grant program with generous gifts from Honda of America Mfg., Inc. help schools defray bus transportation costs for field trips to the Ohio Statehouse and its museum.
BLES Principal Colleen Bodin applied for the grant and chaperoned the students, who were also accompanied by fourth-grade teachers and several parent volunteers.
“This program gives our young students an opportunity to learn first-hand how their government works and how they can make a difference,” Bodin said.
“What I liked about our fourth-grade field trip was the mock trial we did at the Supreme Court of Ohio,” fourth-grader Alexa Fry said.
“I really liked the artwork at the Statehouse and the Supreme Court. They are both cool buildings with really cool interiors,” fellow student Kolt Hays said.
Benjamin Logan Elementary is one of 99 schools awarded a Transportation Grant for the 2022-2023 academic year. The grant amount, based on one-way mileage from the visiting school to the Ohio Statehouse, saves the school district $300.
