A committee of West Liberty residents met Thursday at the municipal building to discuss the initiative and to organize an ice cream sundae social and fundraiser set for Saturday, March 30, at Lions Park with proceeds earmarked for the project.
About $60,000 is required to build the splash pad, the committee estimates. Once it’s built, the village would absorb the day-today operations of the water pad.
Supporters of the project are also invited to purchase commemorative bricks to be placed on the perimeter of the splash pad beginning March 16 through June 1.
The goal is to sell 300 4-by-8 bricks at a cost of $60 for a single brick, or $50 a piece for two or more. Free engraving is available.
Interested donors should stop by or contact the village office for a form.
Local grant funding applications are also in progress, and committee members have estimated that onefifth or more of the funds needed for the splash pad could be secured by way of area grants.
