SERNA |
The alleged West Liberty-Salem school shooter has been found competent to stand trial, a judge ruled Monday.
Ely Serna, 17, has been charged with two counts of attempted murder; three counts of felonious assault; six counts of improperly discharging a firearm in a school; and single counts of inducing panic and illegal conveyance of a firearm into a school in connection with the Jan. 20 shooting at the high school that left fellow student Logan Cole with serious wounds and another student with minor injuries.
Champaign County Juvenile Judge Lori L. Reisinger ruled on the motion after a closed hearing that involved the testimony or two mental health professionals on May 5.
The accused shooter will appear again on Wednesday, June 7.
