West Liberty Village Council is officially seeking a general contractor to renovate its future police department at 111 Runkle St.
Council passed a resolution Monday in a regular meeting to begin advertising for bids for the renovation of the building that eventually will house the West Liberty Police Department.
In a regular meeting last month, council formally accepted renovation plans drawn up by JS Engineering firm that propose an approximately $196,000 overhaul of the .17-acre lot.
By law, council must publicly advertise at least five weeks for sealed bids for the project.
Council has already taken out a 15-year, $300,000 loan from People’s Savings & Loan at an interest rate of 3.5 percent to pay for the building and help finance its renovation. The loan will cost the village $2,160 per month.
