Technology advancements were behind a number of decisions made Thursday night by members of the Ridgemont Board of Education during their regular meeting.
Professional development for teachers was approved in conjunction with the recent purchase of Chromebooks for all students in grades seven through 12. The move will ensure a smooth transition to the new technology-based learning program.
“The board is committed to giving students the most relevant and rigorous education possible and they know it must include a focus on how to make technology a tool for learning,” said Superintendent Emmy Beeson.
A family cap was placed on the school fee and the technology device fee for families with more than two children in grades seven through 12 with the implementation of the 1:1 Technology Program for the higher grades.
The cap was $60 for school fees and $50 for the technology fee.
A full-time teaching contract was approved for Emily Eckstein which will allow the district to offer art as elective for students in K-sixth-grade for the first time in several years in addition to the music classes she currently teaches.
J. Mac Geissinger was given a two- year contract as the maintenance supervisor and transportation coordinator.

A student trip to Costa Rica was approved for June 2018. A group recently returned from an educational trip to Europe. This early approval will allow time for planning and fundraising.
Sidney Richardson’s recent Division 111 State Track and Field Meet participation as a sophomore was recognized with a certificate and pictures from her 9th place in the 200 and 13th place in the 100 meter runs. Rodd Jordan was recognized for his participation as a fifth-grader in the Special Olympics, where he placed first in the javelin toss and third in the 25-meter run, earning gold and bronze medals as a member of the Hardin County Pioneers.
Country View Tree Service and JT McCullough were recognized for their donation of time and excavator to clean up the east ditch line at the new building property.
The next meeting is 5 p.m. Aug. 25.
